System Requirements

1: What are the system requirements to run the UltraEdit Toolbar?

The system requirements for running the UltraEdit Toolbar are:

  • Microsoft Windows (98, ME, NT4 sp6, 2000 or XP)
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.0 or greater.

2: When will the UltraEdit Toolbar be available for other browsers?

UltraEdit Toolbar is only available for Internet Explorer for the moment. The implementation of the UltraEdit Toolbar with other browsers will be developed in the future.

3: Do AOL browser users can install the UltraEdit Toolbar?

The UltraEdit Toolbar can only be installed on Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.0 or greater for the moment.


Installation

1: Why do some users get an ActiveX error message when trying to install the UltraEdit Toolbar?

Your Internet security settings might be on High. This setting will prevent ActiveX controls from running. To install the UltraEdit Toolbar, you must have ActiveX controls enabled. To do this, follow these simple steps:

  • From your browser, select Tools > Internet Options
  • Click on the Security Tab
  • Click on the Internet icon in the window
  • Change security setting to Medium
  • Click OK
  • Or you may try to reinstall the UltraEdit Toolbar.

2: The UltraEdit Toolbar is installed, but it does not appear on the browser.

From your browser, click on "View > Toolbars" and select UltraEdit Toolbar.

3: Why is the installation of the UltraEdit Toolbar failed even while using Windows NT or 2000?

If the user is running Windows NT or Windows 2000, he has to check with his system administrator that he has the administrative privileges required to install applications.

4: How do users know a new version of the UltraEdit Toolbar is available?

The UltraEdit Toolbar has an auto-update system. Users are notified when an update is made to the toolbar’s DLL. To ensure a flawless update, a warning is issued if more than one instance of Internet Explorer is opened.

5: I followed the instructions in this FAQ but my installation still fails. What can I do?

Using the UltraEdit Toolbar

1: Can the user change the UltraEdit Toolbar preferences?

The UltraEdit Toolbar options can be modified by the user through a Web page, inside Internet Explorer. It communicates with the DLL.

2: Is it possible to change the location of the UltraEdit Toolbar in Internet Explorer?

From your browser, make sure that "Lock the toolbars" on "View > Toolbars" is not checked. Once done, you can move the UltraEdit Toolbar by grabbing it with the mouse and moving it elsewhere.

To hide the UltraEdit Toolbar:

  • Click on the UltraEdit Toolbar logo to access the drop down menu.
  • Select the "Hide bar" menu item.

To make the UltraEdit Toolbarreappear:

  • From your browser, click View > Toolbar.
  • Select the UltraEdit Toolbar from the list displayed.
